We recently visited Blue Ash Elementary to see how the HUBERT® Share Cart was performing for, Child Nutrition & Wellness Director – Kelsey Warren (Gash) RD, LD and her district.
Not long after Kelsey took on her new role, as Sycamore’s Child Nutrition & Wellness Director, she was faced with the challenge of student allergies and the overall concern of students sharing foods! That’s when Kelsey decided it was time to take action and decided to form a partner with Operation Give Back, a local non-profit organization that helps empower underserved students and their families.
Bringing the Donation Bin Cart to Life
- Staff rolls the share cart out to a main area within the schools cafeteria.
- Students are encouraged to place their unwanted foods or beverages within the designated bins instead of within the trash.
- After all lunches are complete, staff returns the cart back to their prep area where foods are stored until the next donation pick-up day.
Ok, I just have to tell you this. We log the numbers each week for tracking purposes and, as of this week, we had received over 8,000 items! Of that, 3,600 were milks!!!!– Operation Give Back Volunteer
