Earlier this year, a Massachusetts town instituted a ban on plastic bags, reported Boston.com. Last year’s town meeting had deemed the vessels unfit for the environment. Brookline is one of several towns across the nation that are imposing this ban. This may be the time for grocery stores and dining halls to follow the sustainable trend and invest in biodegradable food equipment.
Offer better bags
Though plastic bags are more durable than paper ones, they’re also harder to dispose of properly. A majority of grocery stores now offer reusable totes and some have reward systems for customers who bring in these eco-friendly bags. If your store hasn’t invested in some of these products, this is a great time to join the movement. Alternatively, you can switch your bags and offer sustainable products, such as the Paper Toter Bags, which come in a variety of designs. There are also Biodegradable Bags, which look and feel like normal plastic bags, but are eco-friendly. You won’t have to worry about sacrificing style with these colorful items.
Move onto prepared foods
For dining halls and grocery stores that have a prepared food section, biodegradable containers are a great way to show consumers that your organization is committed to the environment. You can start small with Biodegradable Cutlery Sets, which include a fork, knife, spoon, napkin and salt and pepper in one handy package. Or, you can get everything separately with the Green 2 Go Packaging Collection, which features a wide variety of dishes, bowls and cutlery.
Inform your consumers
Remember to let your shoppers know that you’re taking a stride toward a greener world by putting up signage. The Sidewalk Write-On/Wipe-Off Message Board is sophisticated and will be sure to grab everyone’s attention. Get plenty of Chalk-Like Markers to design your new sign with. If you want to go the extra mile and further educate consumers on the negative effect of plastic bags on the environment, get some Chrome Wire Literature Holders and provide pamphlets that stress the importance of your store’s new investment. Alternatively, you can appeal to your younger audience by creating child-friendly pamphlets to get the little ones involved as well.
It’s important to maintain shopper happiness and the environment. Reevaluating your venue’s supplies will allow you to create a more sustainable world.
